Birthday Fiesta Surprise
A birthday in Suriname is rarely a quiet affair, and Birthday Fiesta Surprise is dressed for the party. It is a lively mixed bouquet made for birthday celebrations, tied by a local florist and handed to the jarige in person. If you cannot be in Paramaribo for the cake and the singing, this is a way to arrive anyway. Relatives abroad also send it for a bigi yari, when a fiftieth or sixtieth is celebrated with the whole family. Write the age on the card only if they would like that. When a bigi yari is celebrated and one family member is overseas, Birthday Fiesta Surprise takes the empty chair. A local florist in Suriname hand-delivers it to the jarige, the birthday person, at home or at the party venue.
